The Art of Living in Four Boxes

The Vitra family company has been astonishing the public with its original design of classic furniture for more than six decades. Their furniture can be used in household, office or public spaces. The handicrafts are developed in Switzerland right from their first conception. They can be recognised by the combination of thoughtful engineering work with the creative genius of leading designers. For this purpose, Vitra has built a unique creative campus in Weil am Rhein. Right there, in the SANAA building, Vitra also presented its Autumn 2020 Home Collection in the form of four boxes – model living rooms designed for four imaginary households.

In the first box, Roman designer, F Taylor Colantonio, created the household of an eccentric art historian, in which it is difficult to distinguish the old from the new. The  Mariposa corner sofa and the new version of the Chaise Tout Bois chair by Jean Prouvé fit this space perfectly.

Box No 2 was designed by the Charlap Hyman & Herrero studio from the USA. It presents the dining room of a fictional patron and collector of art and design, who has a fondness for Japanese aesthetics. The Oriental character is suitably complemented by the new Moca chair by Jasper Morrison and the poetic Découpage vase by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, each side of which is different.

In Box No 3 everything ebbs and flows. At least Berlin architects - Gonzalez Haase AAS - tried to create such an impression in the interior design for an unspecified couple. The room was also furnished with Konstantin Grcic’s Citizen Lounge chair in an unusual construction, offering various seating options.

Space No 4 by the Belgian design duo – Daskal Laperre – is inspired by the fictional Keller family, who likes to be surrounded by items of the highest quality. It includes the small iconic LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) chair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames, from the time when they were experimenting with the shaping of plywood.

The four non-traditional households also contain items by other global designers, with the iconic Vitra products not having been forgotten either.
